The EDN value proposition is to create sustainable change in our clients’ organisations. We believe that ultimately, whatever work we do, we must demonstrate that this work is value-adding to the achievement of business outcomes. Engaging people is a critical component in this process. Therefore the factors we believe that differentiate EDN from others include:
- We do not commence work with clients with a pre-determined approach and content. Our interventions are tailor made to fit within the work context, culture and strategies of our client organisations;
- Our intervention strategies are designed around sound adult education and change management theories. They have been tested collectively by us over decades of experience;
- The development of our clients’ people to sustain the changes made and deliver ongoing benefits go well beyond the period of the EDN intervention;
- Ability to engage with a broad range of cultures. This has included delivering programs in a range of languages including Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, and Russian.
It is the integration of the above that makes EDN successful and distinctive.
Strategic and Business Planning relative to HSE
Successful HSE outcomes depend on understanding the drivers for HSE improvement and then, developing related plans, performance indicators and responsibilities to ensure agreed outcomes.
HSE Leadership Development
Leaders must drive change processes to improve HSE; to do this effectively they require a range of knowledge and skills ranging from planning to change management, with the ability to engage people with passion and drive to win their hearts, minds and hands.
Achieving Sustainable Change in Safety Performance
While HSE is a continuous journey, change management processes should result in demonstrable and sustainable change. The EDN approach embeds this notion within client organisations through cultural change that has people accept responsibility for their own and their colleagues’ safety and the skills they need to participate and engage in HSE improvement processes.
Coach the Coach
The transition of learning from the classroom to the workplace is problematic. The EDN process uses coaching to create a supportive environment to ensure that learning and HSE improvement plans are implemented. The EDN philosophy is to train our clients’ leaders and supervisors to become effective coaches and thereby deliver sustainable outcomes for our client organisations.
Managing Change
The EDN philosophy is based on the principle that ‘things’ don’t just happen. Wishing and hoping is not a good change management strategy. Change management is a complex process that has both emotional and business demands. Our approach is to work with clients’ leaders and staff and engage them in ways that lead to commitment and confidence to achieve the desired outcomes.
Getting Return from Job Safety Analysis
Risk assessment has many forms in hazardous work environments. The EDN belief, based on research and experience, is that the critical act of having people consult with each other about their specific risks and control measures is the most important. It is our belief that while people know what to do, their skills are lacking in how to do this, and/or they lack effective leadership and coaching in how to do this important task.
Conducting Effective Safety Conversations
Confronting someone at work to address at risk behaviour is for many people perceived to be a high risk act. People generally fear adverse reactions from the people they engage with and may therefore avoid these potential conflict situations. The EDN response is to develop the communication skills and problem solving skills to make this a positive and constructive interaction.
Leading and Developing High Performance Work Teams
Achieving an incident free workplace requires the collaboration of groups within and between organisations e.g. staff, contractors, regulators etc. EDN works to develop a partnership with people so that they develop the relationships required to create a team approach to address the shared concern of HSE.
These services have been delivered programs in a range of languages including Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, and Russian.
